    Centuries ago, The Maleku Tribe – a branch of the Chibchas -, where divided in 23 different groups, however in the last hundred years, their population has decrease substantially; today we can find only three groups: Tonjibe, El Sol, and Margarita, all this reserves are located in Los Guatuzos lowlands.

    The malekus at Margarita had open their harts and their community to all visitors, this way, sharing with us a little of their culture, language and traditions, they are giving us the chance to know the roots of our Costa Rican been. Actually most maleku people speaks Spanish, but they also learn about their culture and take classes in maleku jaica, their original language, since primary school. At the Palenque Cauoran U Tocuf the clients will be received with a drink of “chicha” and a maleku history and language class. After that a hike with a maleku guide through a medicinal plant garden where we’ll get to learn

    About maleku medicine and their relationship with the ecosystem.

    Before our maleku lunch, clients will have the chance to practice some artcrats and arrow classes. The people at Palenque Cauoran U Tocuf will complete your visit with a theatrical presentation of one of their ancient customs as the weddings or man duels.
